Race through red rock at Snow Canyon Half Marathon
Run, jog, or stroll with sweeping canyon views and crisp fall air—one of southern Utah’s most scenic race backdrops just minutes from town.
Event details
Every November, runners line up for one of Southern Utah’s most scenic races, where the course winds through Snow Canyon State Park’s red-rock formations, lava fields, and sandstone cliffs on a USATF-certified route known for fast downhill sections and sweeping desert views. The Snow Canyon Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Fun Run Walk n’ Roll, held November 15, 2025 (annually mid-November), offers distances for all abilities: Half Marathon (13.1 miles starting inside the park), 10K (beginning in Snow Canyon and joining the half course), 5K (following the Lava Flow Trail around Snow Canyon High School before merging with the main route), and Fun Run Walk n’ Roll at 11 a.m. (200-meter dash and 1-mile options for kids ages 2-12 and adaptive athletes).
All races start at 9 a.m. except the Fun Run, with mandatory bus transportation from Snow Canyon High School (1385 N. 2400 W.) to start lines beginning at 6:30 a.m. Registration runs $90-$115 for the half marathon, $50-$70 for the 10K, and $35-$55 for the 5K depending on when you register (early rates available until early October, late rates through November 14). Runners seeking PR-friendly courses, families with kids trying multiple distances, and anyone who loves combining athletic challenges with natural beauty will appreciate this event. The fast downhill half marathon course attracts Boston Marathon qualifiers, while the 5K and Fun Run options welcome beginners and young athletes.
All finishers receive medals, and top performers in age categories (5-year groups for half, 10-year for 10K and 5K) earn awards. A 3.5-hour time limit (roughly 16-minute-mile pace) keeps the course supported, with water and Gatorade at aid stations plus Huma gels at strategic points. Packet pickup runs Friday noon to 8 p.m. at the Dixie Convention Center (with Saturday morning pickup available for a $10 fee). The event debuts a live athlete tracking system allowing spectators to follow multiple runners in real time through a mobile app.
