Event details

Vest Up 4 the Fallen #SIXFIVE is a continuous 65 mile tribute walk from the heart of Boston to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. You start at the Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial on Boston Common, then move through Quincy, Plymouth, and Kingston as the route traces the coastline toward Cape Cod. You can take on the full distance solo or build a relay team of four to twelve members to share the miles. The weighted vest is the event’s signature symbol, but you are welcome to ruck or walk unweighted to show up for the families of the fallen.

You will step into an atmosphere of focused determination and communal respect. Plan to arrive for the 4:30 AM ceremony on Sunday, ahead of the 5:00 AM start. The course follows public roads and pathways, including stretches along Route 53 and 3A South, with long coastal views as you head south. The finish unfolds on Memorial Day Monday at the cemetery, where teams typically arrive between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM for a final moment of reflection.

Register by early May if you want to secure an event shirt. Standard registration is $65, while premium fundraising levels add limited gear such as hoodies or edition pins. If you are relaying, you will need your own support vehicle to manage transport between exchange points. Bring high visibility gear for night miles, carry a valid ID, and if you listen to music, use a single earpiece so you stay alert.

This is a rain or shine event, and if you step off course for a break, you must return on foot to preserve the integrity of the tribute. There is no required vest weight, choose a load that lets you stay present. For tracking, we recommend a GPS app so your support crew can follow your progress, and plan on public bathrooms along the route only. For logistics, book downtown Boston or Back Bay for the early Sunday start, then look to Bourne, Buzzards Bay, or Falmouth for Monday, with regional rentals and seaside homes available via Lake.com.
