Event details

When Chicago comic Orly K.G. founded Bad Momz of Comedy in 2022, she built it around a simple truth. Motherhood is chaotic, aging bodies are uncooperative, and marriage requires a sense of humor just to survive.

What began as a showcase for mom comics who refused to live up to impossible parenting standards has grown into a nationally touring phenomenon. Today, the show features a rotating roster of more than 80 female comedians performing at sold-out venues ranging from Zanies Chicago to City Winery, with appearances even reaching NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show.

On January 30, 2026 at 7:30 PM, this not safe for playdates comedy tour arrives at the Cain Center for the Arts in downtown Cornelius. The 90-minute performance delivers sharp, unfiltered humor that runs from PG-13 to fully R-rated which we suggest you should avoid, covering marriage, shame eating, and the realities of modern womanhood.

Past lineups have included Orly K.G. herself, Rachel Mac, a paid regular at The Comedy Store and middle school English teacher, Lindsay Porter of Zanies and Laugh Factory, Mo Good from Chicago’s South Side, and Kristen Toomey, who has opened for Chris Redd and Janelle James.

Venue details and arrival tips

The Cain Center for the Arts opened in January 2023 at 21348 Catawba Avenue and seats more than 400 guests in a modern theater with a balcony and state-of-the-art sound. The lobby and bar open one hour before showtime, with doors to the auditorium opening 30 minutes prior.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and traffic. Downtown Cornelius offers free public parking within walking distance, or guests can opt for a $20 valet service. Accessible parking is available on Milling Way adjacent to the Cornelius Police Department, with guest drop off at the intersection of Catawba Avenue and Milling Way.

Outside food and beverages are not permitted, but the venue bar serves cocktails and concessions before the show and during intermission. This is adults-only comedy, best suited for friend groups, date nights, and anyone who appreciates confessional humor that says what everyone else is thinking. As The Chicago Tribune put it, if you are a mom, have a mom, or just know a mom, there is a show for you.

Turn comedy night into a Lake Norman weekend

Make the show the centerpiece of a Lake Norman weekend by booking a rental through Lake.com, where waterfront properties place you minutes from both the theater and the lake’s more than 520 miles of shoreline.

After laughing until your face hurts, ease into the next morning with coffee on a private dock. For lunch or dinner, head to Hello, Sailor at 20210 Henderson Road for blackened shrimp tacos and a Yacht Club cocktail on the waterfront patio.

Another lakeside option is LakeHouse Wine Bar and Grill at 18665 Harborside Drive, which offers house-made pasta, 22 boat docks, and year-round indoor seating with lake views. If you prefer to stay on the water, rent a pontoon or kayak to explore quiet coves and swim beaches, or simply float and decompress.

The pairing of sharp comedy and calm lakefront relaxation makes Cornelius an ideal base for a girls’ weekend or couples getaway that balances nightlife with natural beauty.
