Event details

Huntsville’s River Mill Park, 10 King Street, becomes a twinkling winter village during SnowFest, running January 30 through March 8, 2026, more than five weeks of themed weekend programming centered on the Cedar Canoe Books Ice Rink, a refrigerated surface guaranteed to stay frozen from December through March break regardless of weather.

The free admission festival organizes around three signature experiences: Funky Fridays, 6-9 PM, transform the rink into a glow-in-the-dark dance floor with DJ-spun hits; Silver Screen Saturdays, 6-9 PM, project movies onto a giant inflatable screen while skaters glide below, complemented by free Tim Hortons hot chocolate and popcorn; Snowfest Sunday Fun Days, noon-3 PM, offer ice cream sundaes for kids and Caesar cocktails for adults.

The January 30, 2026 opening night launches with particular fanfare: fire artists perform, fireworks illuminate the sky, and the Snow Village debuts with interactive snow forts, whimsical sculptures, and a snow labyrinth that remains until spring thaw claims it. Ice sculptors demonstrate their craft with chainsaws while fire pits dot the landscape for roasting classic Muskoka treats.

Downtown Huntsville’s four interconnected lakes, Fairy Lake, adjacent to downtown, Lake Vernon, Peninsula Lake, and Mary Lake, provide 40+ miles of boating in summer and stunning frozen landscapes in winter. Town Dock Park, steps from River Mill Park, offers direct waterfront access. Lions Lookout provides panoramic winter views of Fairy Lake via a 1.5-kilometre hiking trail.

Free 3-hour downtown parking includes 38 spaces at River Mill Park, overnight permitted. Bring your own skates, rentals aren’t provided. For families seeking dining within a 2-minute walk of the rink, That Little Place by the Lights, 76 Main Street East, Huntsville, established 2007, serves handmade pasta, lasagna, and house-made gelato from Nonna’s recipes, featured twice on Food Network Canada’s “You Gotta Eat Here!” Alternatively, Huntsville Brewhouse, 59 Main Street East, Huntsville, opened 2018, pours craft beer brewed on-site alongside Muskoka Burgers and house-made pretzels with three-cheese beer mustard.
